Great Crested Newt PDF Print E-mail

The great crested newt is the largest British newt, with adults reaching a length of 16 - 17 cm. Adult and juvenile newts have a dark brown or black warty appearance and during the breeding season adult males have a high jagged crest along the back and tail. Both sexes have a bright orange belly with black blotches.
